#7 - The spiritual businessman
Awakening people are needed everywhere, particularly in the business world
I asked myself this question so many times: can you grow spiritually, while being fully immersed in the business world?
In this article, I am going to talk about the challenges to our integrity that we face on a daily basis, what I have changed and how this has positively affected my (business) life.
So here we go.
The challenge
As an entrepreneur and business man, it is easy to see life as a constant fight. You fight for new business and against your competitors—and they do the same. This attitude is based on the belief that life is a zero-sum game: if you win, somebody else has to lose and vice versa.
And indeed, there is some truth to that. Competition is rough, especially in mature markets, and only the fittest survive.
The same is true when working for a company, small or large. We feel the need to fight others and to adopt the rules of the organization in order to progress. As a consequence, we might behave in ways that are detrimental to your development as a loving human being.
I changed my attitude
There was a time when I believed that I could not grow spiritually while being a successful business man. At the same time, it was very clear to me that my mission in life is to awaken.
So I considered leaving the business world entirely and to look for a new job. Something more “meaningful” and “social”, like working in a care home for instance. The problem is, that I have studied finance and I have gained all my professional experience in the investment world—and I find it really interesting too.
During a session with my kinesiology coach, with whom I regularly work on all kinds of issues, I realized the following: God wants loving people in all kinds of positions and he has placed me where I am for a reason! I am supposed to use my strenghts, my skills and my experiences in order to contribute to a better business world. One that gives everyone the opportunity to grow and to become more free.
We need to let go of the idea of scarcity and zero-sum games! If we let go of our egos, try to become better humans, work for the benefit of others and create great products, success will come—and the entire world will be a much better place!
The way I conduct business now
Once I realized that, I started focusing 100% on the big picture and on helping others: our clients, our business partners and the companies we invest in. Even service providers or people that want something from us. It doesn’t matter.
While I am not saying that I succeed at this all the time, it still brought very positive changes: First and foremost, I am much happier. And secondly, people enjoy working with me more. I also realized that most people are much nicer when treated with this attitude.
The other important change I made, has to do with humility: I realized that we cannot always understand the big picture and what is right in each moment. Only God knows the entire plan, and therefore, I pray to God and ask for his advice when important business decisions have to be made: “Lord, please help me make the decision which is best for the world as a whole, our business and all people involved!”
You might lose business or grow more slowly when adhering to this. But in the long run, the world will be a better place and your success won’t be built on sand.
Our “personal” lives
I am also convinced that we should not separate our personal lives from our business lives. We only have one live, which needs to be in balance.
Our souls and our physical bodies have plenty of different desires that need to be fulfilled—and this can only happen, when we have the right balance in our lives. While everybody has to find his/her own way here, we cannot suppress certain fundmental needs for a long time:
A healty lifestle: enough sleep, healthy food, enough movement, etc. have to be the basis
Our families and our children are the most important responsibilities we have. Business should never be as important
Success cannot only be measured by money. It is about creating and allowing prosperity for all our partners
We need to live according to our core values at all times
We need time to decompress, time for ourselves, for our hobbies and our friends
And finally: We must strive to become better human beings. This requires time to reflect, to meditate and to pray.
In the beginnig of my career, I found it hard to allow room for all these important aspects of life. And I was afraid to fail if I follow my own path.
However, the opposite has been true: Once I changed my attitude, I gradually became a happier and more successful (business) man. All we need to do is trust in God and start moving in the right direction!

Ah yes, the great illusion—that spirituality and business are two separate worlds, that you must choose between making money and making meaning. That success demands a cost, a trade-off, a little piece of your soul left at the door every time you step into the office.
But that’s just a script we were handed. And the ones who wake up? The ones who dare to rewrite it? They don’t just find success—they find freedom.
You nailed it: Scarcity is a lie. The zero-sum game is a construct. A fear-based model designed to keep people competing instead of creating. But real success—the kind that doesn’t corrode your spirit—isn’t about clawing your way to the top of some invisible hierarchy. It’s about alignment. About realizing that money isn’t the enemy—it’s a tool. That impact and integrity don’t just coexist—they amplify each other.
The real flex isn’t leaving business to chase spirituality. It’s bringing the spirit into the business. Making your work mean something, matter to people, move the world in a direction that isn’t just profitable, but transformational.
And here’s the secret: The more you operate from truth, the more people will be drawn to you. Because deep down, we’re all tired of the bullshit. We want real. We want connection. We want a world where everyone gets to thrive.
So here’s to shifting the game. Here’s to playing by a different set of rules—the ones that actually lead somewhere worth going.
